Horizons Program
a new outlook
ResCare Residential Program offers a comprehensive treatment program for adolescent males who have experienced maladaptive sexual behaviors and are adjudicated by the courts. RCRP is a recognized provider of IN-AJSOP best practice standards, of which all our master's level therapists are in compliance.
Many students enter our program in denial of their offenses and/or not fully acknowledging the seriousness of their behavior. Early on in the program students complete a sexual history polygraph which helps quickly uncover behaviors that need to be addressed and confronted.
Horizon's students participate in process group five days a week and have two additional groups dedicated solely to thinking errors. Thinking errors are stressed in the program because they are associated with the sexual maladaptive behaviors that led to their specific offenses. In group, students can expect group confrontation, intensive sexual assault cycle analysis, and in-depth empathy exploration. In addition to intensive group therapy, each student will receive one-on-one individual therapy and family therapy on a bi-weekly basis.
Group, individual and family therapy sessions are designed to take students through four phases of treatment.
Phase 1: Psycho Educational Phase
Assessments will occur within this phase. Therapists will begin to understand the student's issues and the depth or extent of their problem. Students will begin to adapt to the program and treatment, while developing their safety plan. During this phase they will also receive sex education and begin to learn their thinking errors.
Phase 2: Disclosure
Within this phase, students will attend group sessions daily to address their sexual maladaptive behavior, as well as address topics such as sexual assault, deviant fantasies, victim empathy. consent, and defense mechanisms. Within this phase students will also develop their victim timeline and a sexual history polygraph will be administered (price included in per diem). Clarification sessions with victims should also occur during this phase.
Phase 3: Relapse Prevention
In this phase, students will develop their relapse prevention plan and focus extensively on the exits from their sexual assualt cycle. Toward the end of the treatment students will take a maintenance polygraph to ensure there have not been any new behaviors that need to be addressed before successful completion of the program.
Phase 4: Maintenance
During this phase, the students will address their own victimization, if applicable, as well as other issues including their self-esteem and preparation for discharge.
