Special Events at ResCare Residential

Throughout the year we have a variety of special events to honor the seasons, celebrate the holidays and reward those students who have excelled within our program. Here is a look at the special events that have happened at ResCare lately:

Kids' Christmas Party

Every year we turn our gym into a cozy living room for our kids, replete with Christmas tree, carpet and storytime. Even Santa makes an appearance! Local churches and businesses donated a multitude of presents for all our residents and we opened them family-style together. We then shared a lovely Christmas luncheon before many of our residents gathered together their things and left for a Christmas furlough.

Christmas Caroling

Our annual Christmas caroling trip found over 50 stocking-capped residents singing their way through Greencastle, visiting nursing homes, the courthouse, various businesses and city hall. The outing ended with a wonderful pizza party hosted by Monical's pizza.

Camp!

The first week in August all our residents gathered for a week-long camp at a nearby campground enjoying such activities as swimming, a rock-climbing wall, canoeing, and hiking. Alongside such traditonal camping fare, two local bands, Crow's Bridge and Anon, played a live rock concert one night. This year's camping schedule also involved shows by a fire dog, a magician (who was willing to share a few tricks with our kids) and a series of Bible studies led by a local pastor.

The kids were teamed up for the entire week to compete in daily relay competitions, tug-o-wars, and water games to see which team would become the camp champion.

Indianapolis Children's Museum

Some of our students had the privilege to attend the King Tut exhibit that the Indianapolis Children's Museum had on display this summer to learn about ancient Egyptian culture.

Wellspring VBS

Wellspring Christian Church in Coatesville, IN invited the boys at the LaViolette Home to attend their week-long camping themed VBS the second week in June.

Chicago Trip

In May, 55 students took a bus trip to Chicago. They went to the museum of Science and Industry and then had Chicago style pizza before going up into the John Hancock building.
