Special Events at ResCare Residential
Throughout the year we have a variety of special events to honor the seasons, celebrate the holidays and reward those students who have excelled within our program.

Winter
Each winter we bundle up, don stocking caps and carol our way through Greencastle,
visiting nursing homes, the courthouse,
various businesses and city hall. The outing ends with lunch at a local restaurant.

Every Christmastime we turn our gym into a cozy living room for our kids, replete with a Christmas tree, carpet and storytime.
Even Santa makes an appearance!
Local churches and businesses donate a multitude of presents for all our residents and we open them family-style together.
We then share a lovely Christmas luncheon before many of our residents gather their things to leave for their Christmas furlough.

Summer
The first week in August all our residents gather for a week-long camp at a nearby campground enjoying such activities
as swimming, a rock-climbing wall, canoeing, and hiking.

The kids are teamed up for the entire week to compete in daily relay competitions,
tug-o-wars, and water games to see which team would become the camp champion. A local pastor provides daily Bible studies and our art teacher creates projects such as drums, t-shirts and banners to leave our
residents with lasting memories of the week.
Along with such traditonal camping fare, we often invite a local band out for a concert one night, have a rescue dog program hosted by the fire department,
enjoy a magician and a carnival.

Wellspring Christian Church and Greencastle Christian Church both invite the boys at the LaViolette Home to attend their week-long VBS
each year.

Spring
In May of each year the top students take a bus trip to Chicago. They go to the museum of Science and Industry and then have Chicago style pizza
before going up into the John Hancock building. This is a educational and enjoyable experience that encourages students to excel
within the program and concludes the traditional school year before we go to half-days throughout the summer.

Some of our younger students have the privilege to go to the Indianapolis Children's Museum as a reward trip for excellent behavior within our program.
We hold an intermural basketball tournament that involves our main campus, Challenger home and Anderson Woods residents.
